Keilah Kang might just be the youngest CEO in the United States after being appointed as CEO of her own company at age 14. She’s truly an inspiration to women and men alike, proving that you can still live your dreams even if it seems impossible. Growing up in the inner city of South Central Los Angeles was no easy feat, especially when you’re coming from a broken home with parents who barely had jobs and were never home.

Who is Keilah Kang?
Keilah is the Founder and CEO of KK Outlet, a clothing retailer for plus-sized women. She’s also a New York Times bestselling author, keynote speaker and entrepreneur. As someone who didn’t finish high school, she struggled with her identity as an adult because she felt like she wasn’t good at anything. But despite not having a diploma or degree, Keilah found success by following her passions in business.
Relationship of Keilah Kang
Keilah was born in Seoul, South Korea and her family immigrated to the United States when she was just an infant. After high school, she got a job at a grocery store and went on to quit after three months. Her first job as an entrepreneur was selling bottled water from home that she would buy from Costco. She then realized there was no way for her customers to get the water delivered, so she bought a car, stocked it with water and started delivering it herself.

Pre-school to high school
Keilah was born in St. Louis, MO and grew up with her two brothers and single mother. She attended a private school for pre-school and elementary school but when she got to high school, she felt like it was time for her to move on. I wanted something different so I quit going to my high school midway through my senior year. After taking some time off, she got back into the swing of things with an online high school diploma program.
Studying at BYU–Provo
Keilah graduated from Brigham Young University-Provo with a degree in Business Marketing, and she was the first person in her family to graduate from college. She attributes her success thus far to her hard work, dedication, and determination as well as the support of her friends and family.
When I was a senior in college, I realized that there were some things that I just couldn’t put my finger on. There were a few times where I felt like my heart and soul were trying to speak up, but it was as if they weren’t able to form complete thoughts or sentences. Eventually, I knew it was time for me to take a step back and figure out what the heck was going on inside of me. So, at the end of my senior year, I made the decision to leave school before graduating and make the long drive home.
Mental Health Struggles
One of the most difficult things that I’ve had to overcome in my life is severe depression and suicidal thoughts. As a high school drop out, I was plagued by feelings of not being good enough. One day after getting into an argument with my mom, I attempted suicide by overdosing on pills. After that incident, she refused to let me be alone for any extended period of time for fear that I would hurt myself again. My mom also helped me get back into school where I graduated and attended college. Nowadays, I’m in a very happy relationship and working as an entrepreneur helping others who are struggling with mental illness.
Achieving success as an entrepreneur
Keilah Kang, a recent college graduate, was able to turn her idea for a company into a reality by relying on some important entrepreneurial skills. She did not take no for an answer and was persistent in accomplishing her goals. She learned how to delegate tasks and work with others. She took calculated risks that paid off. And she also knew how to create opportunities out of every setback or challenge.
Running a Tech Startup In San Francisco
There are a million people running tech startups in San Francisco. Most of the time, I feel lucky that I’m not one of them. It’s not that I don’t want to be a part of it, or that I haven’t dreamed about it. But when you’re running your own company, there’s no time for anything else–no time for cooking dinner, or going on a walk with your dog, or reading a book just because you want to. If you have kids and a family, forget about it. You’re always on call and unavailable for anything else (except for the occasional Netflix binge).
We have been married for almost four years and we have a dog named Billie Jean. She has an Instagram account that you can check out @ourbostonterrier
I love being able to wake up with my best friend each morning and spend all day with her! We are so blessed.
On being diagnosed with PTSD
It was a struggle. I couldn’t concentrate on anything. I had been diagnosed with PTSD and depression at the same time. A lot of people told me that it would be hard for me to do anything with my life but I didn’t let that get me down. When it got really tough, I became even more determined to find a way out of the hole that I had fallen into.
